CHROs weigh in: Keeping pace with evolving technology trends and employee needs

How do we make work better to create a path for shared success for employers and employees? This was the opening for the keynote at the Gartner ReimagineHR Conference in London that we attended this year. And it certainly struck a chord with us.

CHROs are agents of change – nurturing employee experiences and culture, building the organizational structures to attract and retain talent, and all while in support of enterprise-wide objectives.

But at the same time, the demands on CHROs and their teams are rising. Major trends are impacting the world of HR, from managing an increasingly digital workforce, adopting AI-driven technologies and proving the value of the function at the boardroom table.

So, how are CHROs keeping pace with these changes and pressures?  

Following our recent expansion into the US, as well as the UK through our partnership with Veritas Prime, we wanted to take a temperature check on the state of HR innovation, globally.

We surveyed 650 global senior HR leaders to inform our report, Transitioning from Manual to Meaningful: Unlocking HR’s Potential Through AI and Digital Transformation.

This revealed that senior HR leaders’ aspirations to embrace these major trends are being blocked by current workflow issues that are leaving their teams overworked and unable to prepare effectively for the future.  

Here are some of our key takeaways:

#1 The scale of HR responsibilities leaves teams overwhelmed: 75% of HR leaders are struggling to align their HR strategy with rapidly changing business objectives while maintaining a focus on employee needs – and leaving little space to embrace incoming trends.

#2 Four trends will significantly impact HR in the next 3 – 5 years: HR leaders expect AI and automation (64%), reskilling to embrace new tech (61%), employee well-being and experience (56%) and needing to demonstrate HR’s value (55%) to significantly impact their own work and how they engage the broader workforce.

#3 A ‘tech overload’ and current workflows are stifling innovation: 46% of HR leaders say fragmented and ineffective solutions increase the workloads of their teams, while 53% say manually managing policy and process changes means their teams lose time that could be better spent on initiatives that drive business value.

#4 HR leaders plan to prioritize four technologies to unlock HR’s potential: To improve current workflows, overcome technology frustrations and enhance the experiences of their team, HR leaders see AI and automation (60%), self-service tools (58%), dedicated HR solutions (57%) and building a new tech stack (55%) as having the biggest impact.
